Abstract

|
Child psychoanalysis is considered as a subspecialty of psychoanalysis appeared on the scene more than sixty years ago. This article describes psychoanalytic advances in theory and practice as well as changes in knowledge about determinants of behavior from infancy through adolescence in the center of Melanie Klein, Anna Freud and Donald Winnicott. Psychoanalytically informed development research has influenced the understanding of developmental issues and the way in which they may be tapped therapeutically. Research findings have challenged existing theory about development and fostered healthy debate about theory and practice.
